About Girl Way

Hi, I’m Katherine.

Real destinations. Honest safety advice. Trips you can actually plan. I’m glad you found your way here.

I’m Katherine, the founder and writer behind Girl Way. I started this site because solo travel changed the way I see the world — and because so much of the advice out there felt either too vague to be useful or too scary to be true.

Every solo trip starts long before the flight — with knowing where to go, what to expect once you land, and how to feel confident doing it alone. My role is to share what I’ve learned from my own trips, dig into the practical details, and turn that into guidance you can actually use.

Why I started this

Everyone said “just be careful.” Nobody said how.

When I started planning my first solo trip, I noticed the same gap everywhere: people were happy to tell me solo travel was possible, but almost nobody explained the actual how — which neighborhoods to stay in, what a fair taxi price looks like, which “safe” countries still need extra caution after dark, what to pack when you’re the only one carrying your own bags.

A city can look perfectly safe in a blog photo and still have areas, seasons, or scams worth knowing about in advance. A “budget-friendly” destination can quietly become expensive once you factor in the details nobody mentions. Useful information is often scattered across forums, outdated guides, and posts written by people who’ve never actually been there.

I started Girl Way to bring that information together — grounded in real trips, checked against current details, and focused on what solo female travelers actually ask: Is this destination safe right now? Where should I stay? What will this really cost? What do I wish I’d known before I booked?

My goal isn’t to make solo travel sound fearless or effortless. It’s to give you enough real, practical detail that you can plan with confidence — and still keep the sense of adventure that makes traveling alone worth it.

Who we write for

Real answers before you book the trip.

Budget, experience, and comfort level all shape which advice actually fits. Our job is to give you enough context to decide for yourself.

01

First-time solo travelers

Looking for clear guidance without assuming you’ve done this before.

02

Budget-conscious travelers

Wanting real costs and ways to make a trip work without overspending.

What we cover

Three areas, one goal: help you book with confidence.

Our process

How we put together our guides

01

We start with the questions solo travelers actually ask

Safety, cost, where to stay, how to get around, and what could go wrong.

02

We check current, reliable sources

Official travel advisories, local tourism boards, and up-to-date pricing — especially for anything that changes often, like safety conditions or costs.

03

We’re honest about experience vs. research

When a guide comes from a trip I’ve actually taken, it’s written that way. When it’s research-based, it’s presented as research — not dressed up as first-hand experience.

04

We review and update

We revisit older guides when details change, prices shift, or a reader flags something that needs fixing.

Editorial approach

Honest about what’s experienced and what isn’t.

Some of Girl Way’s guides come from trips I’ve personally taken — those are written in first person, based on what I actually saw and did. Others are research-led, built by comparing reliable sources so you still get accurate, useful information on destinations I haven’t personally covered yet. Either way, you’ll always know which is which.

Our promise

What you can expect from every article.

Useful before impressive

We focus on information that helps you actually plan, not just dream.

Honest about safety

We don’t sugarcoat risks, and we don’t exaggerate them either.

Realistic about cost

Budget figures help you plan, not sell you a fantasy trip.

Editorially independent

A partnership never buys a good review. Connections are disclosed clearly.

Safety note

Plan with us, but trust yourself on the ground.

No website can account for your personal risk tolerance, the political situation on a given day, or how a destination might have changed since an article was published. Use our guides as a starting point, then check current travel advisories, register with your embassy if relevant, and trust your own judgment once you’re there.
